Weathering steel is a copper chromium alloy which is 'selfhealing'. The untreated steel reacts to chemicals in the atmosphere as part of the oxidation processand generates its own protective layer of rust.This layer (or patina) prevents the steel from furtherdeterioration and replenishes itself over time.

The natural rust finish begins at the time the product is created and will continue to oxidize/rust to its own unique finish depending on its environment.
